Things you need to know about ACTA

ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

iSCSI targets on Linux (Open-E iSCSI) behind NAT

I was wondering, how to use iSCSI targets for my personal purposes on Linux. Because I am planning deploy a Linux Server in my home for Web hosting, ftp server etc. and whole this stuff will be working  behind of firewall and NAT.

After testing Open – E iSCSI, I decide this is great service of providing by Open-E on Linux.

But they say, Open-E iSCSI targets is not working behind of NAT now and they do not have plans to do this. This is really bad news :(

To explain why iSCSI targets behind NAT can not be accessed
by a initiator we have to explain how iSCSI connection works.
It is a two-step connection. One step is discovering portal and
second is actual log in. Even though iSCSI targets IPs can be
translated via NAT and discovered, they send back theirs inner
IPs to initiators using SendTargets function. Initiators will not
be able to connect to targets via those. In the future
such a functionality might be implemented using Internet Storage
Name Service but we do not have any plans to do so yet.

The only possible workaround is to create a VPN tunnel between Initiator and NAT. In this way the Open-E iSCSI targets can be seen as they would be in LAN.

Windows 8 secure boot could complicate Linux installs

Windows 8 and new hardware features are bringing many changes to the PC world: one of them has Linux users worried about their ability to run the open source operating system on hardware designed for Windows. Systems with a “Designed for Windows 8″ logo must ship with UEFI secure booting enabled, which is likely to rule out Linux distributions. Luckily for Linux users, they should be able to disable the secure boot mode in order to dual-boot Linux alongside Windows, but they will have to rely on hardware vendors to make the option possible. Microsoft insisted that it is not attempting to limit users’ control over PCs, but said secure booting will protect users from rootkits and other malware that targets the boot process.

Disable Auto Lock Door of Library option on Symantec Backup Exec 2010 r2

As we all know, Symantec Backup Exec 2010 r2 Locks door of Library when a job is started and never release it:) so you have to start unlock library job on Devices Tab in Symantec Backup Exec 2010 r2 Console even you do not near of your Symantc Backup Exec 2010 r2 server console but you have to do it.

Anyway Symantec provide a option which is disable this behavior.

We’ll  just replace a value in Register key. Go“HKLMsoftwareSymantecBackup Exec for WindowsAdamm”  and replace “Disable Library Door Lock” value “0” to “1“, after restart Symantec Backup Exec 2010 r2 Its done.

Maybe you should restart your Library. (Depends on Library model) ….

IBM TS3200 Tape Library users password can not be change on some internet browsers.

Hey,

I just learn it. If you need to change Admin/Superuser or user password on IBM TS3200 Tape library, you can be change it only on Firefox and Internet Explorer. If you try to change those users password on Google Chrome, “Password has been changed!” message is appear but password is not changed.

So you should use Internet Explorer or Firefox when you need to change users password in IBM TS3200 Tape Library.

P.S. : firmware version is “9.20″ what is really last one.
